This July, the Rosehip Medic Collective is putting on a 20-hour Street Medic Training. Our trainings are open to people of any skill level; we encourage EMTs to attend our trainings as strongly as we do people with no first aid background.
We also welcome folks that are already trained as street medics and interested in refreshing themselves or helping out as volunteer patients/other ways.
We will prioritize people who plan to travel to the upcoming RNC/DNC protests as medics, as well as those doing local organizing work. Please include that info in your first email as space will be limited. To sign up, please email us at rosehipmedics@gmail.com
The training is holistic, focusing on preparation, actions and aftercare. Participants leave with useful tools whether they plan on being a medic at every major protest or if they simply want basic first aid knowledge for their neighborhood. The schedule is intensive, with one evening session and two long days that include hands-on practices and realistic scenarios. We strive to make our trainings accessible, safe and supportive for all people and will work with you beforehand to try to meet your specific needs. Our training includes:
- the why’s, what’s, how’s and ethics of street medicking
- action preparedness
- patient assessment, basic first aid skills and life-saving techniques
- when to call 911 and how to interact with Emergency Medical Services
- police violence and chemical weapons
- use of herbs in the streets and for aftercare
- packing your first aid kit
- and much more!
The training will take place on the following dates:
- Friday, July 1st 5pm-9pm
- Saturday, July 2nd 9am-6:30pm
- Sunday, July 3rd, 9am-6:30pm
The location will be in Portland, OR accessible by bike, car and public transportation, details provided after registration is finalized.
Please note that we ask a $25-$100 donation from all participants to cover our costs and raise funds for collective members to attend the Republican National Convention protests as medics. We ask a $10 deposit to hold space; and then folks can pay the rest at the training. If the cost of the bottom of our sliding scale would be prohibitive, please write us anyway and we’ll work something out.
