ANNOUNCEMENT: Bleeding Control Workshops!

[**NOTE: SCROLL DOWN FOR WORKSHOP REGISTRATION INFO**]

With protests going on for over four months, Portland is showing up strong and loud to say that Black Lives Matter, fascists aren’t welcome here, and we will not accept a coup. The notoriety of being a strongly progressive city upholding an insurrection has garnered national attention. While this has been encouraging and inspiring to many, it has also attracted the attention of those who intend to suppress such a movement by any means necessary – including extreme violence.

The number one cause of preventable death after injury is blood loss. This month, Rosehip Medic Collective and Portland Action Medics are teaming up to take on the task of training 100 local activists at a series of Bleeding Control Workshops. With that many more community members trained in how to control life-threatening bleeding, our community will be better able to take care of each other in the event of further violent escalation against protestors, in particular, gun violence and mass shootings.

Each workshop will cover causes and identification of life-threatening bleeding, including gunshot wounds, and how to effectively stop these bleeds depending on location. Extensive practice times on props will ensure participants are prepared to respond to a bleeding emergency if needed. In addition to these skills and knowledge, participants of the workshop will leave with a Bleeding Control Kit valued at around $60, which will further empower them to act and save lives.

Thanks to the generous support of our communities, our initial gofundme raised enough money to get this project off the ground for an initial 100 trainees!  We are currently scheduled to train about 150 people!

**HOW TO REGISTER FOR A WORKSHOP**

We are excited to offer these Bleeding Control Workshops on a sliding-scale donation:

BIPOC sliding scale $5-25
Medics who already have the major trauma supplies and won’t need a full kit from the course, sliding scale $5-25
Other folks, sliding scale $15-75
Please register for a workshop and then use our Donate page to make your sliding scale donation.
If you cannot pay anything, please register for a workshop and then email us at rosehipmedics@gmail.com to let us know you are registered and will show up for your workshop.

Sign up, show up, learn the skills, maybe save a life.

We’ve tried out multiple different registration systems and none of them seemed to be able to work just right. But we had to pick something. Please be patient with us as we work out the clunky parts.

You can sign up for a workshop by clicking on one of the dates/times below and filling out the google form that goes with it. PLEASE ONLY REGISTER FOR ONE WORKSHOP! If you sign up for more than one, it’ll confuse everything and your response may be deleted.

Kindly note that due to COVID group size limits, there are only 6 available slots for each workshop, and we do not have space in the building to accommodate childcare or non-participants. If childcare cost reimbursement would make it possible for you to attend a workshop, please email us at rosehipmedics@gmail.com to arrange this.

Spots are likely to fill fast. We’re doing our best to remove dates and times that are already full, and we apologize in advance for any inconvenience if you fill out a form that doesn’t accept your registration- please choose another time.

You must be able to be on time for your workshop.  Please plan to arrive ten minutes in advance.  If you miss the introduction which includes the Covid safety protocols, you will not be admitted late and may not be able to register for another session if they are full.
